Presentation

Médecins Sans Frontières Logistique is one of two purchasing and supply centres for the Médecins Sans Frontières Movement. MSF Logistique is responsible for :

  • purchasing medical and non-medical products
  • packaging
  • storage
  • shipping these materials and medicines to the main humanitarian intervention locations, for both MSF and other international NGOs

For more than 35 years, we have been supplying a range of products such as medicines and vaccines, as well as inflatable hospitals, 4x4 and emergency kits.

Who are we ?

In 1979, Médecins Sans Frontières had been in existence for eight years, when Jacques Pinel described it as "an organisation without organisation". As a young pharmacist working in Thai refugee camps, he was alarmed to notice boxes of medicines stacked under a tarp, without any place to store them... Concerned about the conditions under which treatment was being provided, he discussed, explained, and oversaw the creation of a logistics base for Médecins Sans Frontières. The first kits appeared, with protocols and a list of essential medicines: they formed the pillars of the Médecins Sans Frontières logistics and the keys to its efficacy. This drive for professionalism gave birth to Médecins Sans Frontières Logistique in 1986.

Today, Médecins Sans Frontières logistics are split between field operations, national headquarters, and purchasing centres. We also share our expertise with all humanitarian organisations.
